Bungie Changes Destiny 2 XP Scaling

Despite being a majorly hyped release, Destiny 2 has been met with a lot of criticism from players since launch. Don’t get us wrong, the game has sold millions of copies between the three platforms it’s on (PC, Xbox One, and PS4), but just because they’re bought, doesn’t mean they’re being fully enjoyed. One of the things that seems to really tick off players is that the game truly doesn’t follow certain patterns that the original Destiny did. For example, the XP system.

In Destiny 2, the XP scales depending on what task you are doing. If you’re doing a “long” activity, like Raids or Dungeons, you get a higher XP scale, while if you’re doing a “short” activity, like a Public Event, the scaling is much shorter. This did not please players at all, and their dislike of it spread all over the Internet. So, Bungie made a declaration on their website that things were going to change:

“We’ve seen community discussion around XP gain in Destiny. After reviewing our data, we agree that the system is not performing the way we’d like it to.”

But, what exactly is changing? Well, according to Bungie, players will see changes in the scaling of XP across all events. More than likely, it’ll be more evened out than it was before. To that end, players will be able to see the multiplier on the UI at all times, thus showing them exactly what they are earning.

Now, while this change is welcome, it’s not permanent yet, as Bungie states that they’ll be watching the rewards to ensure that everything meets their expectations, as well as the expectations of players.

It goes without saying that players will hope that more changes like this come in the following weeks and months, for there are still many things players want changed about the game.
