Breakaway was an upcoming team-based brawler that was being developed by Amazon Game Studios. This was one of the first attempts of Amazon Game Studios to enter the video game industry, and a lot of people were expecting outstanding results, but unfortunately, the development on the game has been stopped. This is always a sad thing to hear, but sometimes you have to learn to let go instead of staying on a sinking ship.
But, when you look at it, this wasn’t exactly something that was as shocking as one might think, as we didn’t receive any news about Breakaway for quite a while now, so naturally, some people already thought that some issues were found in the game’s development. As it turns out, this was a correct assumption, as Amazon Game Studios tried to work on Breakaway’s core gameplay, which they wanted to reiterate and expand on, but they didn’t end up meeting the goals they set for themselves. This resulted in a decision to stop the development of Breakaway and start working on new ideas. They stated in their Reddit thread:
We remain exceptionally proud of the team’s work, and feel privileged to have been a part of such a dedicated and enthusiastic community. We will reach out to this channel as soon as we have news to share regarding our new projects, and if a thunderbolt of inspiration strikes that leads us back to Breakaway, you’ll be the first to know.
We are excited to see what new projects they will be working on, and who knows, maybe they come back to Breakaway somewhere in the future and revive it.
