Borderlands Dev Team Fires Back At Accuser With Grievance Lawsuit
It’s been a very odd week for the team at Gearbox Software, who made the fan-favorite gaming series Borderlands among others, for a vast series of allegations have been launched against them by a man who used to be general counsel (lawyer) for the company. The accusations that he’s firing off including the CEO withholding $12 million dollars from the company as a “bonus” for himself, having general midconduct with employees, and much more. The company has released some statements denying these allegations.
But now they’re going even more into this, they’ve announced that not only are they going to fight these claims, they’re going to file their own grievance against the lawyer. Here is their official statement on the matter:
“Gearbox will be filing a grievance with the State Bar of Texas against our former general counsel Wade for disciplinary proceedings for filing a lawsuit that includes accusations that he knows to be untrue.”
The statement went on to say:
“The lawyer’s rules of professional conduct expressly prohibit the filing of documents that are knowingly false. The tell is within Wade’s claim itself – his use of hedged lawyer language and clever application of quotation marks betray that he knows that the impression he is trying to create is based in lies. We imagine that he used the quotation marks and lawyer language in hopes that will give him some angles of defense when we inevitably take action against him for false statements. Wade is engaged in a shakedown and he’s clearly using deceit and lies to try to cause damage by promoting a narrative that he knows is false.”
It’s clear that they’re going to fight this with all that they have, and some of their own statements now bring into question how reliable the lawyer himself is. But only time will tell how truthful one side or the other is.
