Blizzard Teases What 2018 Will Bring To Overwatch
Overwatch came out of a defunct project at Blizzard, but once it found what it was meant to be, it took the world by storm. The team-based shooter with 20+ characters to choose from gave players many different ways to play, as well as some interesting takes on the shooter genre. Then, as time went on, the game evolved, new characters were released, new maps were given, and new events were had. 2017 marked many arrivals, and Blizzard has big plans to make 2018 just as successful.
How? Well, creative director Jeff Kaplan made a special “developer update” for Overwatch and detailed some of the things that you can expect for the upcoming year. For example, many of the special events that happened in 2017 will return. This includes the Lunar New Year (which this year is The Year Of The Dog), the Uprising event (which will take a new form), and naturally, the anniversary event.
All these events will bring special skins for you to go, and there might be some other surprises that come with them as well.
Furthermore, Kaplan notes that the Blizzard World map that has been promised for the game should be coming out soon, so stay tuned for more on that.
However, the biggest thing by far is the fact that the next hero in Overwatch is well into development:
“We are well along the path on hero 27,” Kaplan states “We think the hero is very awesome. We think the hero is very needed.”
That last line, in particular, is very intriguing, for what does the Blizzard team think is so “needed” that they would create a character seemingly dedicated to that need? Healers were a need in the minds of many, and then Moira came along, so, what could they be up to?
No word on when said healer will arrive, Kaplan says that they want to make sure they get the character right before releasing it.
