Blizzard Talks Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Swapping Characters With Nintendo
Blizzard has been on everyone’s mind since the other day when a rumor came forth saying that Diablo III was coming to Nintendo Switch. Sure enough, the rumor was proven to be true, and for the first time in 18 years, they’re bringing their games to a Nintendo platform. This has opened the floodgates about what could be next, including some questions as to whether we could see some of their characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, or Nintendo characters in other Blizzard games.
Game Informer sat down with the Diablo team and asked them about characters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and their replies were pretty hilarious:
Pete Stillwell, Senior Producer of Diablo III, noted: “Personally, yeah, I’d love to have Diablo. That to me is the immediate one. Then if we had over time, eventually the heroes, go through all of them…or you could be really awesome and only have Deckard Cain.”
When the question turned to having Nintendo characters in their games, the idea of having Bowser as a dungeon boss in Diablo III was brought forth. But Stillwell also had an idea:
“Pig Ganon would be cool. I feel like we’re mostly naming villains, but there’s a lot of classic Nintendo villains. Pretty much any of them would be great.”
Now, obviously, none of this is confirmation that any Blizzard characters are coming to Smash Bros Ultimate, but that’s not the point. The point is, the option is now there. There hasn’t been a game by this team on Nintendo platforms since the original Starcraft on Nintendo 64. And everyone is hoping this is the beginning of a new relationship for them and not just a one-off thing.
And…given that every 3rd party character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate has been on a Nintendo system at one point or another, Diablo would qualify for potentially being a character.
