There are always going to be clones made of popular video games, especially when they come up with a unique formula that has attracted so many other players to it. This appears to be the case with Overwatch, who has had a clone made of it that has forced Blizzard into legal action.
This was after a game surfaced called Heroes of Warfare, a company in which their Chinese operator is being taken to court by Blizzard and NetEase. It is being contested that the game is a clone of Overwatch, with Blizzard looking for financial reward and an apology. Blizzard is also contesting the game being on the Apple App Store, which is being demanded to be removed.
As you can see from websites such as My Game News Flash and Hachima, there are strong resemblances with Overwatch heroes such as Winston, Reindhardt, Widowmaker and Mercy. It isn’t just the game’s characters which bear resemblance either, with the game’s HUD, UI and level design all looking like the ones featured in Overwatch. It was always possible that it was going to happen, but this is quite the clone indeed with very heavy nods to the Blizzard shooter.
Overwatch is now available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
