Blizzard Reveals “Code Of Conduct” Rules For Overwatch League
There’s always a “feeling out” period when it comes to something new, even if it’s something that is rather familiar. For Blizzard, this was made apparent during their newest creation, the Overwatch League. The esports tournament is meant to be their attempt to create something very special in the world of esports, and so far, it’s been a major hit. However, that doesn’t mean there haven’t been controversies, and one in particular has gotten them to create and release a “Code Of Conduct” that all teams and players must follow.
During its first leg of the competition, a player names xQx made a homophobic slur at one of his competitors who was in fact gay. This was made very public, and giving Blizzard their due, they suspended him immediately. And now, on the official Overwatch League site, they’ve detailed their Code of Conduct so that there can be no mistake about what is right and what is wrong.
“The Code of Conduct is designed to ensure the integrity of the game; to safeguard the public image of the league, its players, teams, and owners; and to provide a competitive game environment that is free from harassment and discrimination.”
That seems a pretty fair statement to make in light of what happened before. But it goes beyond just making the “workplace” a fun and safe place. Blizzard also outlined some rules that speak to things happening in other Leagues. For example, players are required to play their best at all times, which means tanking or throwing a match could get you suspended.
Players must also never use a bug or exploit within the game to gain an advantage, something that has happened many times with Overwatch in the past.
Hopefully, this rules are followed to the letter so that the League can continue on and be the epic event Blizzard wants with no more scandals or issues.
