Blizzard has thrown quite the curveball at Overwatch fans with their most recent announcement regarding fan favorite hero Mercy.
Boasting one of the most recognized ults in the game, with her resurrection ability which ushers the popular slogan “Heroes Never Die” has been replace with “Valkyrie,” which sees the character fly around wielding a clip of super-powered bullets and super-charged healing, along with increased damage beams.
The previous resurrect has now been demoted down to a secondary ability which focuses on single targets on a cooldown. Which in all honesty feels a bit of a shame, given that as the ult, it was one of the most satisfying moments you could have whilst playing Overwatch, knowing that you could save the day and completely turn a match on its head by bringing multiple team mates back to life at once.
Hopefully players will adapt to this new version of Mercy well, which leans more on the side of being a DPS character than an out and out healer. Her new ult, Valkyrie, is definitely not a weak replacement, either. Its more to do with the fact that players may now approach choosing Mercy differently to adapt to their respective team’s needs, so fingers crossed it hasn’t changed what already makes Mercy so special with these changes.
