The last game to be released in the BioShock series was BioShock Infinite. After that, we saw the majority of the Irrational Games staff let go, with Ken Levine leaving to work on a brand new game using a smaller studio. Meanwhile, associate producer and level designer for the game, Shawn Elliot, joined up with Arkane Studios to work on the reboot of Prey. We’ve now seen the return of Elliot at 2K games, who will be working on a new project in an unnamed studio as a principal designer.
The project that Elliot is working on is yet to be announced, though it has been suggested that it is an FPS based on a franchise that already exists with 2K. This of course has led many to predict that it will be a new BioShock title is what is being worked on.
This would make a lot of sense, given Elliot’s experience with the franchise. We also know that 2K Games intend on continuing the franchise without the input of Ken Levine. This probably wouldn’t be too much of a popular decision with the die hard fans of the series, without having Levine involved. However, it has to be considered that the franchise is far too renowned and popular for it to be ignored completely.
