Bethesda Wants Sony To Let Elder Scrolls Legends Be Cross-Play Compatible

Cross-Play has been a movement in gaming for a few years now. At one time it wasn’t possible, or at the very least, not feasible. But then, games like Rocket League, Minecraft, and even Fortnite (accidentally at first) started to have the ability to do so. And players loved it, they loved being able to play with another console. But when it comes to Sony and their PS4, they are incredibly hesitant (see: Stubborn) about bringing such features to their systems. And Bethesda is aiming to lay down the lay with this via Elder Scrolls Legends.

Elder Scrolls Legends was originally only a PC game, but now, it’s coming to all consoles, including PS4. But, as Pete Hines said in an interview with GameInformer, this is a title that is meant for cross-play, so for Sony to not allow it will cause problems:

“(Legends) is a strategy card game that encompasses both single and multiplayer,” he said. “It is both cross-platform play and cross-platform progressive. It is our intention in order for the game to come out, it has to be those things on any system. We cannot have a game that works one way across everywhere else except for on this one thing.

For him, having “two versions” of the game is unacceptable, period:

“We can’t be talking about one version of Legends, where you take your progress with you, and another version where you stay within that ecosystem or it’s walled off from everything else. That is counter to what the game has been about.”

It’s good to see a publisher like Bethesda taking a stand against this. After all, PS4 fans have been begging Sony for cross-play, and Sony is “countering” by saying they’re “protecting the fanbase’s security.”

So will they yield to Bethesda? It’s hard to say, but we’ll find out.
