Bethesda Teaches Players How Fallout 4 VR Will Work
Video games are constantly evolving, and that includes the medium we play them in. First, there were arcade games, then simple games you could hold, then came consoles, and full-on gaming handhelds, PC’s grew and evolved into something special, and now, we’re pushing the bounds of reality itself with VR and its slew of titles from various developers. But one that is pushing them even more forward is Bethesda, which has brought many of its interesting worlds to the various VR headsets of the world. And now, Fallout 4 is coming up to bat.
Now, what makes Fallout 4 VR so special in many people’s eyes is that this game is massive on many counts, not just in the world you can explore, fight in, and survive in. But also, the mechanics of the gameplay. There’s the V.A.S.T. system, the ability to build just about anything in the world, it’s a lot to control. So, Bethesda decided to do a little hands-on demo of sorts to help you get the basics.
The is guided and played by Lead Producer Andrew Scharf and Community Manager Jessica Finster, who literally walk you through the process of going into this world, and how the VR headset and controls will work.
One of the big issues that VR developers have to deal with in their titles is locomotion, or, how people move in the game. Fallout 4 VR has two ways of doing it. Teleportation will take you to various action points without having to see the world move around you. Or, there’s “direct movement”, where your character will literally be able to walk or run anywhere they want. These options are meant to be able to give you the best experience without the motion sickness.
Also, for those wondering if various VR movements are required all the time, such as looking at your Pip-Boy to activate things, it is not. You can lock certain things to the screen and make it like any other menu in the game.
