Bayonneta 3 To Be Very Different From Predecessors
Bayonetta is a franchise with a fascinating history. It’s been both praised and criticized for its main character. It had a successful first game, selling over a million copies, yet the platforms it released on originally didn’t pick it up for a sequel, thus giving Nintendo the chance to do it themselves. Bayonetta 2 was originally thought as a bad idea because of it, and yet it went on to win Game of the Year by some. And now, all eyes are on Platinum Game to do something special with Bayonetta 3.
Not much is known about the 3rd title in the over-the-top action hack-n-slash with bullets title. There was a teaser shown at The Game Awards last year, but nothing has been shown since. During a convention in Croatia, Platinum Games Producer Atsushi Inaba spoke through a translator about how this game is testing the team:
For Inaba-san, Bayonetta 3 represents a turning point for the company in how they make games. And so Bayonetta 3, for taking a linear forward progression action game, they really want to do something new, add in new gimmicks, new ways to play the game.
While this may sound risky, as they have an established formula that was very much perfected in Bayonetta 2, it’s always good to try and change things up so things don’t get stale. And Platinum Games is legendary for not doing anything stale. And they know that fans have great expectations for the title. Hideki Kamiya was also present at the panel and said via translator.
“They know that the fans expect crazier, better, tighter action games. If they’re going to put out Bayonetta 3, it’s going to have to raise the bar.”
The game will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, and it’s a bit unclear whether it’s aimed for this year or next.
