Battlefield 1’s Monthly Updates Will Be Ending In June

EA did the Battlefield franchise a service by going back to the first World War via Battlefield 1. It helped change the game in many ways, and gamers showed their appreciation for it by buying it in good numbers. EA and DICE all did the game a service by releasing monthly content for the title so that things could stay fresh and keep gamers interested in it. But, all good things must come to an end, and the end has been revealed.

The final expansion for the game, Battlefield 1 Apocalypse, has released, and this is the beginning of the end of things as revealed on their website. Though things will continue to update until June, including players getting new maps to battle on:

We’re glad to announce that we’re making more maps from Battlefield 1 They Shall Not Pass available for all owners of Battlefield 1*. Today, you can tackle Rupture – a map taking place during the Second Battle of the Marne, characterized by its poppies growing over rusty wrecks. Coming in May, you’ll get to play on more maps with the hardened veterans of the French army making in a stand in a brutal defense of their homeland.

They continued on to note about the ending of the updates:

We’re continuing monthly updates for Battlefield 1 until June 2018, in which you can expect fresh content together with various tweaks and fixes for the player experience. As you may have seen on the Updates Page, these updates can cover anything: matchmaking, weapon balancing, even Dreadnought horns that sometimes won’t stop blaring.

As for why they’re stopping the monthly updates, it’s honestly very obvious. The new Battlefield game is going to arrive this year. In fact, they’ll be unveiling it at E3 2018, which is in June. So that’ll be a perfect transition point from playing the older game to enjoying the hype and buildup for the new one.
