The flavor or the month, or in this instance the year, in gaming has been the battle royale genre. The dizzying heights of popularity reached by titles such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite have had a knock on effect on other titles to persuade them to follow suit, with games such as Dying Light and Call of Duty adopting these practices, though the latter is only in China. It now seems that Valve want to tap into this market with CS:GO, which was recently revealed on Valve News Network.
The channel Valve News Network was created by Tyler McVicker, and often showcases leaked information from various Valve games, which is a practice that has been used for some years now. As far as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is concerned, a survival mode is mentioned in several game files, complete with its own sound section, which seems to emphasize the fact that it has gone beyond testing.
This won’t come as too much of a surprise to many, given the several record-breaking successes that PUBG has had, particularly on Steam. It is likely that they will adopt a similar practice to Fortnite, offering players with the base game an additional mode to try out separately.
