Batman: The Enemy Within Final Episode To Be Most Ambitious Yet
TellTale Games has made a name for itself with its episodic content style. But what really separates them is that they have a desire to tell unique stories within beloved universes. They’ve done it with The Walking Dead, Borderlands, the Fables series, and of course, Batman. While their first season set the stage for what they could do, Batman: The Enemy Within has been aiming to go bigger, go bolder, and to push fans to go deeper into how dark Batman can be when the mission is right.
The fifth and final episode of the season is set to arrive this month, and will be titled “Same Stitch”. But, in arguably the biggest twist in the company’s history, this final episode will have a dual scope focused on one question, “Who is John Doe to you?”
“What would you choose: a friend whose unhinged approach to justice turns your allies against you, or a sworn enemy who will stop at nothing to see you suffer as your city burns? Based on the relationship you’ve built with John Doe, you’ll see one of two very different stories play out. So what’ll it be, Bruce: friend…or foe?”
“John Doe” is the “name” of the version of the Joker that lives within this universe. However, TellTale Games made his journey to becoming Joker a key part of the story. At the end of Episode 4, he took control of a hostage situation and saved lives, but then cracked after being betrayed by Amanda Waller, and this episode will deliver two unique stories depending on your relationship with Joker.
In fact, it’s so unique, that only three scenes are shared between the two diverging storylines, that’s something TellTale has never done before.
“Without exaggeration, Same Stitch is the most ambitious piece of content Telltale has ever produced,” says Season Lead Writer James Windeler. “We had to adjust our usual development process to accommodate the added scope, but it was super important to us to honor players’ choices, whether they chose to befriend John or not. We had to deliver on the season’s central promise of allowing players to craft their own Joker.”
It’ll be very interesting to see how things play out when Batman: The Enemy Within: Same Stitch releases on March 27th.
