Fundamentally, it’s very natural for video games to get patches. Especially right after launch, as certain bugs or errors might have slipped through the cracks. However, when a patch is massive, has no warning, and can sometimes cause problems for players? That is a problem. And that is apparently what is going on with the TellTale Games title Batman – The Enemy Within. For the recently released game has apparently had two major patches within a few days of each other, and weren’t announced by TellTale.
This was discovered by Reddit user Jaffacakelover (who found the changes on SteamDB), who revealed that on August 9th (the day after Batman – The Enemy Within was released), it had a 12.9 GB patch download. For the record, that’s basically the whole game re-downloaded. And then, on the 12th, a 9.1 GB patch was released. Or at least, these were released for PC, but regardless, this is curious, especially since neither one has been teased or revealed by TellTale.
What’s worse, is that these patches have apparently caused some save data from the game to be erased. However, this has been a rare case, and does not happen to all. I myself have the game and my save data is fine. If you have beaten the episode before today, you should check the game and see if your data is ok.
Needless to say, players of the game on Reddit were not happy about this news. As they are quite angry that TellTale released such massive updates without a word of warning to them. And obvious for those who lost their data, they now have to play the game all over again and have to remember all they did if they want to match their first run-through.
Should TellTale Games make a statement on this, we will let you know. There’s no word yet on when the next episode of Batman – The Enemy Within will release.
