Assassin’s Creed Odyssey ESRB Rating Revealed
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is going to be the next title in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, and coming off of the major success of Origins it has a lot to live up to. Ubisoft has noted in previous interviews that the game has been in development for some time, and they’ve put a lot of energy and effort into it. A group that has gotten to see the complete game is the ESRB, who have officially made their rating for the game.
Not too surprisingly, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is getting an “M” for mature audiences. Which lines up with previous entries due to their various natures. Here is a breakdown of the rating itself:
“This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of siblings Alexios or Kassandra, mercenaries on a quest for vengeance. As players explore an open-world environment in Ancient Greece, they interact with characters, infiltrate enemy bases and strongholds, and kill human enemies.”
There’s also apparently some “mischief” of a certain nature…
“The game contains instances of sexual material: characters kissing and caressing before the screen fades to black (sex is implied, though never shown); dialogue referencing sex and prostitution (e.g. ‘Anything goes in the sex andron’; ‘That is love, this is commerce. What are you into?’); a character hearing sexual moaning sounds behind a door. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the game.”
All in all, this does seem par for the course, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is definitely going to live up to at least part of the legacy it’s been given. The real question is, how will it help define itself?
Origins helped set the series back on track, and if Odyssey does well, it can help cement the series as being on good standing beyond just one title. The game releases on October 5th.
