Leaks are a powerful thing in the world of video games, and though many of them turn out to be bunk, there are plenty that are true in one form or another. Yesterday, a set of photos was released that pointed to the next Assassin’s Creed title being revealed. It was set to be called Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and would take place in Ancient Greece. The photos were convincing, but hardly definitive proof. But now, we got the real proof, straight from the mouth of Ubisoft.
On their Instagram page, Ubisoft posted that Assassin’s Creed Origins is not only real, but it’ll be unveiled soon at E3 2018. While obviously not the way they would’ve chosen to unveil their next big Assassin’s Creed title, at least they won’t have to worry about leaks for a while, and gamers won’t have to worry about whether it’s real or not over the span until E3.
Assassin’s Creed had a huge bounce back via Origins, which took the game to Ancient Egypt and featured the birth of the Brotherhood of Assassin’s. Rumors speculate that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is going to be a true sequel to Origins, and will show what happened to the Brotherhood after Bayek set it up in Egypt. Give that the original titles were set in Italy at times, we could see how the Brotherhood made its mark in that region that set up the original assassins that we met.
Another possibility is that we could get to see the new assassin go up against the Greek pantheon on gods, which would be a pretty epic thing in and of itself. For unlike the Egyptian gods, the Greek pantheon is more human in form, which could set up some big battles.
Either way, we’ll find out more when E3 2018 arrives on June 11th.
