Devil May Cry 5 Was Partially Inspired By Ninja Theory
When it comes to long franchises, it’s rare that one entry in them doesn’t get made by another team. Sometimes it’s done to bring a “fresh look” to the franchise. Other times that team has an interesting idea and the publisher wants to see it brought to life. Either way though, the results are mixed. Such is the case with Devil May Cry, for Capcom let Ninja Theory take on the franchise and they made DMC, which few liked. And though Devil May Cry 5 is a return to form, they’re apparently not abandoning what DMC did.
This came from Capcom’s Matt Walker, who noted many things in his interview with VG 24/7. Including stating what Devil May Cry 5 is, and will be inspired by:
“This is definitely a game for the fans — we’ve heard fans asking for a sequel to the storyline of DMC4 for over ten years. But this isn’t a slight at Ninja Theory or DmC at all. We all love DmC.”
Strong words, but he actually didn’t stop there, he kept going about how DMC inspired the next game:
“(Game director Hideaki) Itsuno-san himself has explicitly stated that in his mind, DmC is just as important as any of the other titles in the series, and he’s just as proud of it,” Walker explained. “That game had an amazing world all its own, that could only have been produced by the amazing artists and imaginations at Ninja Theory. We learned a lot from working with Ninja Theory on that title, and we hope that they benefited in some way as well. Itsuno-san has stressed several times in conversations with me that he’s taken what he’s learned from working on DmC and applied what he’s learned specifically to what we’ve done with DMC5.”
So for better or for worse, DMC will play a factor in the new game. Which will arrive in 2019.
