Nintendo’s New President Gives Statement About Future
Nintendo has been on a roll over the last year ever since the launch of their console the Switch. The system has been selling very well, and their software has been doing just as well. Even better for them, their handheld system, the 3DS, has been seeing a resurgence in terms of hardware sales. Everything is looking up for the company. So you might find it odd that a new President for the company has been crowned. But that’s exactly what happened, as Shuntaro Furukawa now leads the Big N.
To be fair, this was announced awhile ago, and it was planned for the end of June, in which it did happen. He replaced Tatsumi Kimishima (seen below), who noted in the original announcement that his role as president of Nintendo was always meant to be temporary, and that it was important to bring in a younger face to the role.
In a message to the people, Shuntaro had this to say:
Here at Nintendo, our mission statement is to “increase the amount of people that experience our IPs.” It is my belief that with the more people that are touched by the characters and game philosophy we cultivate here, the more valuable the company will become.
At the same time, as an entertainment company, our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is to “bring smiles to everyone’s faces.” Through our products and services, our company seeks to expand that ring of smiling faces around the world – it’s our duty to society.
Shuntaro inherits quite a lot, and quite a lot of responsibility. 2018 is a little bit of a slower year for the Switch, but it does have some big releases like Pokemon Let’s Go and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. And if he is able to expand the brand more, he’ll be loved for it.
