Wrestling games have evolved greatly over the past decade, and nowadays, the WWE 2K series is not just the dominant wrestling title, it is getting the popularity of other sports games when it comes to the cover athlete. In fact, there was even controversy in recent years when “part-timers” would grace the cover instead of full-time roster members. Last year, Seth Rollins helped break that trend, and today, a virtual press conference revealed that the Phenomenal AJ Styles would be the cover athlete for WWE 2K19.
Anyone who knows the history of AJ Styles as a wrestler knows how significant this is. He spent most of his career in WCW, TNA, New Japan and other promotions. AKA, everywhere that wasn’t WWE. Then, he arrived at the Royal Rumble 2016, and later that same year became WWE Champion. In 2017, he became a 2x WWE Champion, and he holds the belt still after winning a major PPV match last night. Point is, he deserves this honor.
And while Styles is enjoying his newest achievement, he and WWE are throwing down a challenge. You see, Styles is a massive gamer, and so WWE is hosting a “Million Dollar Challenge” around him and WWE 2K19.
“If you win the contest and beat me, in WWE 2K19, you could win a million dollars” Styles said. “That’s right, you heard me right. One million dollars.”
How would you accomplish such a task? Well, you have to get the game on PS4 or Xbox One, then follow up with four steps:
- Beat a to-be-announced new mode in the game
- Submit a winning promotional video that explains why you will beat AJ Styles in WWE 2K19.
- Make it to the semi-final round of this competition and beat three other semi-finalists in WWE 2K19
- If you win that contest, you compete against Styles, one-on-one, in 2K19. Defeat him and win a million dollars.
Sounds easy right? Wrong.
“Here’s the problem with the Million Dollar Challenge,” Styles said. “I don’t like to lose. Hey, I’m not going to make it easy. I do want them to win, sure. Just against someone else. Nevertheless, I need to get in the lab and make sure that doesn’t happen and if they do win a million dollars I’m going to put them to the test. But it’s a fun play, man. And I know there are some gamers out there who dedicate themselves 24/7 to making sure they’re the best and I’m looking forward to the competition.”
So, if you’re up to the challenge, get ready for the game releases later this year.
