Fallout 76 Will Get Mod Support After Launch
Bethesda surprised a lot of people when it revealed its game Fallout 76. What’s more, this game is apparently the “first” of the Fallout titles timeline-wise, and it’ll be a game that is primarily online play. While many are intrigued by this, others are curious about other aspects of Fallout that may or may not be coming in. One of the biggest questions though is about mods. Will this “online” game allow mods? Or would Bethesda not want to “ruin” the experience by including them?
Well, at E3 2018, Bethesda’s Todd Howard and Pete Hines talked with Geoff Keighley about mods in Fallout 76. And Howard gave some very positive news to fans:
“We love mods, and so we are 100 percent committed to doing that in 76 as well,” said Howard. “We will not be able to do that at launch though. Our goal for launch—this is really new for us—is have a well-running, robust service, and then some period later, we’re currently still designing what that service looks like, you’ll be able to have your own private world and be able to mod it and do all of that.”
So there you have it, Fallout 76 will indeed have mod support, it’s just going to be a little while until the game gets it. And it makes sense why there is going to be a delay, after all, this is the first truly online Fallout game in history, and as Hines notes, that’s a priority before modding:
“With our games, that’s where the long-term life of them really is. That is trickier when you get into an online world, but we’re definitely committed to that. It just won’t be at launch.”
Still, players should be happy that the game will get mods, and it’s only a matter of time before insane creations are made.
