Resident Evil 2 Remake Announced
The Resident Evil series has been around a long time, and it continues to be a key franchise in the world of video games. Resident Evil 7 was a big step in the right direction for the franchise after some missteps over the years. And now, via E3 2018, we know another direction they’re going, backwards. But not in the bad way mind you, rather, Capcom has revealed that Resident Evil 2 is getting a full-fledged remake, and so you’ll be able to partake in this classic adventure in the new age of gaming.
For those who don’t recall, Resident Evil 2 was a vital part of the Resident Evil story, for not only did it follow-up the events of the first game, it showed us Raccoon City for the first time during the initial zombie outbreak. Furthermore, it gave us our first encounter with Leon S. Kennedy, as well as characters like Ada Wong and more.
As noted by Capcom after the reveal, Resident Evil 2 has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, including using the engine from Resident Evil 7, which should prove just how good looking it will be. Plus, the game will be more advanced than its original counterpart in many ways outside of looks.
For example, both Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield will be playable, and each will have their own unique storylines. This was the first game that introduced us to Leon, and it was the beginning of a journey that would continue for many titles.
It also should be noted that the remake features an over-the-shoulder style camera, much like Leon’s other Resident Evil title, Resident Evil 4. The original Resident Evil 2 was actually made about 20 years ago, and was headed up by Platinum Games boss Hideki Kamiya. It’s going to be very interesting to see how this turns out when it releases January 25th, 2019.
