Giving map editors and mod tools to players is one of the best things that a developer can do to keep their game alive. When you’re done releasing content for the game, the people can then use these tools to make content on their own, and thus new content still keeps arriving for the game even when the official supports stops. StarCraft II has a really complex map editor which can be used to create awesome maps, and two of them are getting sold. These two are Direct Strike, and ARK Star, which is completely different from the base game.
StarCraft II got patch 4.3, and with it came these two maps. Direct Strike is a map that’s similar to most of your standard StarCraft II maps. You need to expand your base, secure resources, and then amass an army and clash with your opponents. Even though it isn’t anything “special” per say, it is still a high-quality map which any competitive StarCraft fan will definitely enjoy, and we always want more maps to toy around in. The other map, ARK Star, is completely different. It’s actually a hand-made turn-based RPG created in the map editor, and it looks absolutely amazing. It has everything that you need in a turn-based RPG, which is NPC dialogue trees, leveling, looting, and more. This is basically a new game inside a game, and that’s a really impressive feat.
Both of these maps cost $4.99, and a part of the price goes into the pocket of the map’s creator, so if you want to support these people, buy the maps.
