Call Of Duty Franchise Could be Getting Major Shifts In Focus
When it comes to long-standing video game franchises, especially one that have a history of being good and selling well, it’s always a challenge to “one-up” themselves, and this is most definitely the case with the Call of Duty franchise. The games started off very popular, then waned after repetitiveness, then got reborn with Modern Warfare, then upped the ante until it became so ridiculous that they went back to WWII. And now, Black Ops 4 is set to “change things up” once again, but maybe not in the ways you expect.
There’s a lot of rumors swirling around today about what Activision is planning with Black Ops 4. Or more accurately, what they’re are and AREN’T planning for the game. A report claims that the game will not feature a singleplayer campaign, which is unheard of for the series. This comes from Polygon, who reports that a “traditional” singleplayer campaign may not be in the game because it’s nowhere near completion and the game is coming out later this year.
This would be extremely odd, for though the Call of Duty singleplayer games were never the most engaging thing, except for Modern Warfare and a few select others, they were a key part of the game. They helped welcome the players to the world and prepare them for multiplayer. Especially new players. So if it doesn’t have, it will be a huge blow.
Now, the other rumor that’s going around is that Black Ops 4 will feature a Battle Royale mode, and that developer Treyarch is hard at work on it right now. This comes from Charlie Intel, and it does fit with what Activision would try and do to boost sales even higher for their games.
It needs to be said that these are rumors, they have not been confirmed, either of them, but definitely be on the lookout as we draw closer to the Black Ops 4 reveal event.
