System Shock Remake Developers Are Back From Hiatus

Making a video game isn’t as easy as one might think. Not in terms of programming or anything like that, even though that’s also really tricky, but in terms of making what you envisioned and turning it into reality. Nightdive Studios, the people behind the upcoming System Shock rework, which is now actually a new game entirely, are back from their hiatus and they have news for us!

After a lot of thinking and deciding whether the studio wants to remake the original game or make a completely new one, they decided that a brand new game is their goal. At least that’s finally clear, and they can now focus completely on completing their goal. So, what do we know? From Destructoid’s post, we found out that the team managed to use most of the assets that they already have, so they won’t need to start everything from scratch. Stephen Kick, the CEO of Nightdive, stated:

We have been able to re-use the majority of work we’ve done over the past year and we’re making significant progress in a very short amount of time. With that said we’ll be inviting our highest tier backers to privately test the game beginning in September at which point we estimate that the game will be fully playable, from start to finish. The majority of the art won’t be finished, but we’ll be ready to start high-level testing.”

That’s great news for the highest tier backers, as they get to play the game 2 years earlier than anyone else. The game is set to release in 2018, which is still far away, but at least we know now that the studio worked out all their issues, and that they are working hard on making the game.
