Microsoft Expands Code Of Conduct For Xbox One, Can Ban Accounts For Violations
There’s been a lot of moves recently to ensure the safety and quality of the communities that play video games. The word “toxicity” is now something that is used to describe a community where hate and abuse flow from, and many games have that. But it’s not limited to them, for even regular console communities have those who would abuse the privileges given to them. Microsoft is taking a stand against this though, and being more active in how and when it will ban Xbox One accounts.
So, in a new update coming on May 1st that’ll update the Services Agreement and add
“In the Code of Conduct section, we’ve clarified that use of offensive language and fraudulent activity is prohibited. We’ve also clarified that violation of the Code of Conduct through Xbox Services may result in suspensions or bans from participation in Xbox Services, including forfeiture of content licenses, Xbox Gold Membership time, and Microsoft account balances associated with the account.”
This is a bold move on Microsoft’s part, not the least of which is because some of their new terms aren’t exactly clear. As some have pointed out upon hearing this, the terms “Offensive language” and “graphic violence” aren’t exactly spelled out. There are also other terms that may be unfair to some as they’re not showing these things to others but just to themselves.
Ironically, this jives with what’s going on currently in the Overwatch League. Where Blizzard has been buckling down on what the rules are and how players should be punished for breaking those rules.
Again, the new rules won’t be applied until May 1st, and so that’s time to get your affairs in order on your Xbox, Xbox Live and whatever else you feel you need to change before the new wave of rules come in.
