Bioware Removes Anti-Tamper Tech From Mass Effect: Andromeda
Mass Effect: Andromeda got off to a rocky start post release, and that is somewhat of an understatement. A few short days ago, another patch was released for the once highly anticipated entry in the Bioware franchise.
Its interesting to see what this patch has included, or rather, what was not included in the release notes. The main point of interest in these terms is the apparent removal of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. No one seems to know at this time whether or not this move was in fact intentional or not, since similar situations have happened in past games where patches have been introduced without the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, only for it to be reintroduced in a later update down the line.
Although the game is still under protection from Origin, the 1.9 version of Mass Effect: Andromeda is not powered by the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. It isn’t the first game to remove the tech either, being joined by developers and publishers of the likes of Doom, Hitman, Homefront: The Revolution and RiME.
Mass Effect: Andromeda was met with plentiful criticism upon its release, predominantly down to a number of bugs and rather amusing character animations gone wrong in certain cases.
