Tomb Raider is one of the most recognized game franchises in video game history. Not the least of which is because of its protagonist Lara Croft. However, there was a time when the games honestly weren’t that good, they were generic, didn’t do anything with Lara’s character, etc. However, they then went through a full-on reboot. It made the game more modern, more gritty, more personal, and the fanbase responded in kind by latching onto this new take on Lara. And now, it appears that the next game in the lineup, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will be revealed tomorrow.
Why do we say that? Well, multiple reasons, on the Tomb Raider site, there’s a teaser image of an eclipse that says “March 15th 8am PDT”, which says that a game will be revealed tomorrow. Then, someone decided to delve deeper into the website’s code, and Twitter user Nibel posted code that has in it “Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the climatic finale to Lara’s origin story.”
Even if we ignored the code aspect of it, that teaser image is more than enough to say that a Tomb Raider game is going to be announced tomorrow. And it makes perfect sense to do so, after all, the movie based on the recent reboot is coming out on Friday, so why not reveal the new game to bring out the hype for the film?
Going back to the code for a second, the word of the “reveal’ is interesting. For it says “the climatic finale to Lara’s origin story”. Why say it like that? We feel it means that though this will be the end of one story, it will be the beginning of another. Potentially anyway. Maybe we’ll get a time jump to a few years down the line where Lara’s been at this for a while longer? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
