Could Far Cry 5 Allow Players To Play The Villain?
We are less than two weeks away from the arrival of Far Cry 5. The latest installment in the established franchise is taking players to the United States for the first time, and putting you up against a very different kind of threat. As here, you’ll be going up against a cult who truly believes that the land and all its spoils are meant to be theirs. They’re led by a man named Father Joseph Seed, and it’s your job to stop him, if you can.
Ubisoft has been very good about building up the mystique and allure of Joseph Seed, to the point where they even released trailers (both in-game and live-action) about him. But now, they’re teasing something more.
In an interview with Hot 97, producer Daryl Long said this:
“I can tell you right now that when you’re playing Far Cry 5, you’re going to get very close and personal with the Father. You are gonna get a lot of good time with him and I will not rule out the possibility that at some future time, you’ll get even closer.”
We may not by psychics or seers, but “some future time” sounds like DLC. And “you’ll get even closer” makes it seem like we’ll get to play as Father Joseph Seed, or at the very least play as one of his inner circle. Both of which would be intriguing.
Far Cry 5 has already announced DLC, but those are what you might call “out of context” DLC. Meaning, they don’t tie into the games story or even setting. We think Ubisoft wouldn’t just have that DLC, so this “Father Seed DLC’ feels very possible. It might already be in the works, or, it might be coming based on the sales for the game, it just depends on what they want to do.
Far Cry 5 releases March 27th.
