Horizon Zero Dawn Is Now The PS4’s Most Successful New First-Party Franchise
While it’s true that video game publishers like Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft rely on their “core” franchises for sales, they also know that they have to push the envelope and bring in new IP’s to try and shake things up. Sometimes it comes via a partnership with a 3rd party company, or, sometimes, it’s from one of the developers under the publishers banner. For Sony, this came at the hands of Guerrilla Games, who created and released a title known as Horizon Zero Dawn last year, and everyone took notice of it.
Ironically, it released mere days before Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, however, those days were not misspent, and both critics and fans praised the game for what it was, and now, the game has sold over 7.6 million copies.
“We are incredibly grateful that Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds have been received so positively by so many gamers,” said Shawn Layden, Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios in a statement, “and it is a testament to the fantastic work of the entire team at Guerrilla.”
The game combined an open-world, advanced technology mixed with a tribal culture, a main character that everyone could get behind in Alloy, and gameplay that was tight and fun from start to finish. This new world was a mix of things that people had, and hadn’t, seen before, and that’s what made it even more special.
“Since launch, millions of players have joined Aloy on a quest to discover the secrets of the old ones. We hope they enjoy playing Horizon Zero Dawn as much as we enjoyed making it.”
Despite being up against very stiff competition, Horizon Zero Dawn has earned many awards for its design, story, characters and more. If you haven’t had the chance to play it yet, it’s available now on the PlayStation Store.
