Blizzard has been called upon many times to consider bringing Hearthstone, the popular digital card game, to consoles. This is for a couple of reasons, with not only the potential to open up to an entire new audience, but the lifespan of the game has also been called into question on a number of occasions, something that would certainly go towards increasing it.
With the introduction of 2018’s Year of the Raven, which brings three new expansions to the game, the question once again rose as to whether there would be a future release on PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch. Senior Producer Yong Woo and Game Director Ben Brode recently reiterated that there are no plans to bring the game to the console platform, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to many.
The Nintendo Switch’s handheld capabilities would make a good platform to use it on, so it’s no surprise that there has been rumors circling that it would be making the jump to there. This rumor was refuted by principal game designer Dean Ayala, so don’t hold out to be playing it on the Switch anytime soon.
It certainly isn’t unheard of for a Blizzard title to come to consoles, with the likes of Overwatch and the Diablo franchise being found on there. But as far as Hearthstone is concerned, it won’t be happening in the near future.
Meanwhile, you can pick up the popular card game on Steam and mobile devices.
