Metal Gear Solid V Achievement Was In Fact A Lie

Don’t you hate it when that happens? You work so hard to get something done, or do something worthwhile, and you think you have it done or in the bag and then someone comes over and tells you, “Yeah, there’s been a mistake…” and you realize you didn’t accomplish anything? Well, that’s what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain players are feeling today, for a recent “accomplishment” of theirs has officially been wiped clean by Konami. Here’s the breakdown of what happened.

So, in Metal Gear Solid V, there’s a multiplayer mode called Invasion/Forward Operating Base. In it, players would set up nukes and other players would have to try and disarm them. Because of the game’s popularity, there were a LOT of nukes set up. But, there was a promise that if all the nukes were destroyed, a special cutscene. A few days ago, that cutscene popped up on multiple platforms, signaling true “nuclear disarmament”.

Apparently…that didn’t actually happen.

This comes straight from Konami, who posted on their Twitter feed to reveal that the cutscene was somehow triggered WITHOUT the nuke count being at zero.

“We are still investigating, but can confirm that the event was triggered while the nuke count hadn’t reached zero. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience and reassure you that we will investigate the matter as well as take the necessary action to avoid this in the future.”

This is certainly ironic for many reasons. The first of which being that even though it’s “fixed”, the cutscene has leaked online, and thus it’ll never be taken away. Because of that, the desire for nuclear disarmament in the game is now pointless.

Second, you have to wonder how this happened. Many are thinking hacker, but there’s no reports on that. What do you think happened to cause Metal Gear Solid V to do that?
