Assassin’s Creed Origins Has Been Cracked
Since the dawn of time…ok, may not that long, but for a long time now, people have tried to break into the unbreakable. Whether it’s buildings, safes, or the DRM surrounding video games, people want to prove that nothing is safe. Game hacking, or cracking as its called sometimes, is a well-established practice in the video game world. Breaking the security put in by the developer to see how long it takes. For Assassin’s Creed Origins, it held out for three months, but apparently, it’s now been cracked.
This was revealed on Reddit, and the crack itself was perpetrated by a group known as CPY. This group is literally known for their cracking of video games, and they have done it for other AAA titles as well, such as Resident Evil 7. The fact that it took this group 3 months to try and get the game cracked should prove how far Ubisoft went to ensure the game was protected. But, no protection lasts forever.
Now, aside from the “glory” of it, you might be wondering, why would someone want to crack Assassin’s Creed Origins? Well, once the DRM and other safety measures are broken, the game can be uploaded to the internet to be downloaded via Torrent. Or in other others, it makes the game free to download.
Usually, this would be a bad thing outright, but there are a few things you need to consider here. First, Assassin’s Creed Origins released in October, and has been selling very strongly for months now. Anyone who wanted the game outright now has it, and thus has no need for this torrented version. So sales honestly won’t be affected that much. Second, as you’ll see on the Reddit thread, just because the game is cracked, doesn’t mean what you download is instantly playable.
So, is it cool that it got hacked? Sure. But if you really want the full experience with minimal issues (and no questionable legality), just go buy the game.
