The Final Fantasy series is one of the most beloved franchises in all of gaming. So much so that it’s impacted various series across its lifetime, even bringing some of their renown characters to other franchises, including Super Smash Bros. and Tekken 7. But, the franchise is not immune to bad titles and fatigue. After the events of Final Fantasy XIII’s “triple release” Square Enix did something very different for Final Fantasy XV. And it worked! Then, they decided to do something even more different, by making Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition.
But, what is Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition? Well, it’s the full Final Fantasy XV game, but it’s for mobile, and the games visual style has been put into Chibi form, as you can tell from the pictures above and below. Make no mistake, this is indeed a full-on version of the title, just a bit more manageable in some aspects.
Anyway, Square Enix said it was coming, but no one knew when. But, Siliconera has reported that the game will be coming out on February 9th on Android and iOS systems. The Windows 10 version doesn’t have a release date yet.
Interestingly enough, the game is available for pre-register right now on the Google Play store. So if you’re interested, don’t miss out. Or, if you’re wanting to “test it out” before playing, you’re in luck, as the first chapter of the game is downloadable for free once the game releases. After that? You’ll have to pay for it.
As noted above, Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is coming to iOS, Android, and PC. But, there were rumors last year that the game could also make it to the Nintendo Switch. Those rumors were debunked…while also not being debunked. It’s complicated. Still this is definitely one interesting take on the main title that you might not want to miss.
