Monster Hunter World: Has Shipped 5 Million Copies
There’s a danger in trying to put a not so popular series out for everyone to get. In video games, a title can be VERY popular in one region, yet not have as much success in others. This was definitely the case for Monster Hunter. The franchise is legendary in Japan, but in the US, UK, and other regions…not so much. But, Capcom slowly worked is magic, and began to grow the fanbase. And it all converged when they announced Monster Hunter: World. A game that would be aimed at the Western audience, while appealing to the original fans.
Well, apparently, that was a very good move. For Capcom released a statement saying that Monster Hunter: World has shipped 5 million units worldwide (this includes digital sales) in just three days. This is a big thing for the series, and is, in fact, a record for the franchise in regards to its opening three days.
Now, to be clear, “shipped” does not mean “sold”. And though they said that “digital sales included”, that doesn’t mean that the game sold 5 million units in 3 days. However, Capcom had to have a reason to ship that many units all over the world, which likely means that the title was pre-ordered a lot, and that people said they wanted it, so they tried to facilitate the need.
We do know, that Monster Hunter: World is #1 on the UK game charts right now, and it’s sales in the UK have topped any previous Monster Hunter game, so that’s very good news.
Capcom has promised free DLC and updates to come soon, which will likely keep players going for quite some time.
This is a big win for Capcom, who are still recovering from the flop they released in Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite last year. It’s good to see them bounce back.
