Epic Games Disabling Friendly Fire in Fortnite Battle Royale

This is going to be fantastic news for a lot of Fortnite players. Epic Games has announced that they are removing friendly fire from the free-to-play Battle Royale mode.

In any instance of any game, team killing is an absolute bane of the experience. Even though it adds a sense of realism and a need to be more careful and tactical, it also attracts trolls who are simply doing what they do best; trolling you hard. This is something that has been implemented immediately, though it could be reversed in the future as Epic look to experiment with alternative methods that will cut down on team killing.

The statement from Epic reads: “We’ve received a lot of feedback on this subject, and it’s something we’ve been watching closely. Today we’re making a change in an attempt to reduce team killing in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Starting immediately, we’re going to disable friendly fire. This change will not require a client update.
We understand that when players abuse friendly fire it can be an incredibly frustrating experience. However, we also recognize that friendly fire encourages thoughtful play and careful tactics. The impact of this change will be closely monitored, and in the case that those tactics are too negatively affected we may evaluate other methods of reducing team killing.”

Fortnite is now available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
