Far Cry 5 Earns Its “M” Rating
Ratings are important, especially in video games, because the line between “T” and “M” is a big one, and there’s a reason why certain games are rated “M”. The Far Cry series has been one that’s always loved being “M” rated, mainly because a lot of the things they don’t aren’t suitable for the eyes and ears of young children. Thus, why the rating system exists. Now, the ESRB (the gaming rating service) has provided a detailed breakdown on Far Cry 5 and why it’s getting its “M” rating.
Parts of it are obvious, the game is extremely violent, as you’ll be shooting, stabbing, burning, mutilating, and various other bad things to enemies. What’s worse possibly is that the game will feature suicide and various forms of torture. So that alone is enough for an “M”. But…this is Far Cry, it doesn’t stop there.
Oh no, it gets better, not only is there scores of violence and very explicit language, there’s also drug use…that gives you power-ups:
“Players may also consume homeopathic drugs (e.g., “Fast,” “Furious”) that boost players’ abilities and skills; one drug (oregano) blurs the screen when consumed and is described as, “Surprisingly good in brownies.” The words “f**k” and “c*nt” are heard in the game.”
Yeah, you can’t make this stuff up. Or, technically you can, as Ubisoft did make this up. Oh well. The point is, Far Cry 5 is going to be a very dark game, so we only recommend you playing this if you’re up for it. If you are though, you might just be in for an interesting game experience. For the story of the game is that you are a sheriff who has to try and stop a cult called the Eden’s Gate from taking over a county in Montana.
Far Cry 5 arrives on March 27th.
