Gamer Able To Transfer Final Fantasy XIII Cutscenes From PS3 To PC
Gaming has a lot of interesting quirks and oddities that many really don’t understand. And that’s not an insult, often times it’s very deserved. One of the best examples of this is ports. While porting games to other platforms is common practice, it’s mind-boggling when the port is clearly lower quality than the other systems it’s on. Now, sure, on one hand, different platforms have different capabilities, and that’s fine. But it doesn’t excuse everything. Take, for example, Final Fantasy XIII and when it was ported to PC.
On the one hand, this was a big win for PC gamers, as they would get to play a major Final Fantasy game without the need to have a rather expensive console in the PS3. However, when the players got the game, though the core game itself was fine, players realized that the cutscenes in the game were of a drastically lower quality, and it couldn’t be fixed. That is until Steam user Lulech23 stepped recently to fix this problem.
“As everyone probably knows, the PC version of FFXIII ships with cutscenes of lower quality than the PS3 release, which uses the lowest compression of any edition of the game. Also as everyone probably knows, you can’t just drop the PS3 cutscene files into the PC version of the game and expect them to work.”
The process behind which he did this conversion is actually rather fascinating and shows the depth and passion that gamers have in regards to fixing problems like this one. Now, yes, Final Fantasy XIII isn’t exactly a “new” title, as Final Fantasy XV is still wowing players and critics alike. However, it’s still a rather popular game despite its divisiveness and history. And now that this issue is “fixed”, it could lead to more people playing the game again.
