In most video games there are certain things you can expect. Challenge, fun, growth as the player character, etc. But one thing that players both look forward to and dread is the boss fight. After all, the boss fights are how we determine how good we have gotten. For if we do well against them, we know we did our jobs right. If not…well…it’s back to the drawing board. With decades of games on their systems, you could argue that Nintendo has one of the best collections of bosses out there. So, who is the best boss fight?
Well, that’s what Reddit was determined to find out. Many Nintendo players came out and revealed some of their favorite boss fights from the Big N’s games, and there were quite a few surprises.
For example, one user noted Dreamy Bowser from Mario & Luigi Dream Team. Because the character had a good look, great music, and was tough to beat. Sticking with the Mario & Luigi saga, Dark Bowser from Bowser’s Inside Story also got a few nods.
A classic villain in Mother Brain from Super Metroid was also called out, noting that it was “an adrenaline rush every time” you played it.
Speaking of classics, your rival in the original Pokemon games (known as Blue to the fanbase) was also cited. If for no other reason than they beat you to the punch of becoming Champion, and now you had to defeat them one last time in order to get the crown.
And then, there’s Ganon, and his many forms. Several fans called out the prince of darkness for his numerous great boss fights. But even his original form, Demise, got some mentions. The Skyward Sword villain was something special to be sure, and is, in fact, one of my favorite Nintendo boss fights ever.
