PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Coming To Mobile Devices In China
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the biggest games around right now. It released on Steam Early Access earlier this year, and has been getting more and more players, and breaking more and more records almost every week. Players just can’t get enough of the gameplay that puts 100 people on an island and has them fight to be the last person standing. It’s oddly addictive. Now, the game is coming to the Xbox One next month, but that’s now not the only other platform that will get it.
For recently, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole made a deal with publisher Tencent to bring the game to China, and that will indeed happen. But now, Tencent has revealed that the game will be coming to mobile devices in China as well. To be clear, there’s no mention of whether this will happen in the US or other countries as of yet. But, the possibility is there.
Tencent will handle the mobile version of the game, which isn’t surprising given that they’re the ones who are going to “modify” the original game to fit China “standards”. Which go beyond coding and into cultural messages that will be found throughout the game.
Regardless though, this is an interesting development and one that should be appreciated by those in China. As for the rest of the world, they can take heart that the other versions of the game are the only ones that Bluehole has to worry about for now. Which is a good thing, as players are eagerly waiting for the “preview” version to be done, and the main game to launch. The team have a long road ahead of them, but, they are making progress.
The only questions now is whether the game will make its deadline of the end of the year. As that’s when Bluehole said the game would be out in full. We’ll have to wait and see.
