The interstellar strategy game StarCraft II will soon be free-to-play, Blizzard has announced.
Starting from November 14th, players will be able to gain access to the award-winning Wings of Liberty campaign, as well as the multiplayer ranked ladder, which includes all of the latest units and balance updates through to Legacy of the Void. Players can also expect to receive access to the game’s co-op mode, with all Commanders being playable free of charge.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime commented: “StarCraft II is one of the highest-rated PC games of all time, and we’re excited to give even more people around the world a chance to find out why it has inspired such a passionate global community. With the massive Wings of Liberty single-player campaign, endlessly replayable co-op mode, prestigious ranked ladder, comprehensive map-making tools, and more, StarCraft II now delivers the ultimate real-time strategy experience completely free.”
The later StarCraft II chapters can be purchased individually, with the single-player campaigns such as Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void and Nova Covert Ops can be ordered through the Blizzard Store. What’s more, there will be a free Heart of the Swarm gift offered between November 8th and December 8th for those who log into the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app.
