Blizzard has swung the ban hammer once more upon poor sports in Overwatch, with a huge wave of bans hitting Chinese accounts. These bans have been put in place for griefing and trolling, which is considered by Blizzard as being against the spirit of the game, but more importantly, it’s in violation of Blizzard’s code of conduct.
Of course, trolling plays a massive part in innocent players’ experience of the game, and should be shut down accordingly. Hundreds of accounts have been banned, and Blizz has even gone as far as listing the names of those who have been punished, and as you can probably gather, the list is quite lengthy.
Game director Jeff Kaplan and the team are thankfully continuing their battle against toxicity, which has without a doubt been on the rise in the popular shooter as of late. So much so, there have been over 480,000 accounts punished since launch. That statistic came up back in September, so over the course of the last two months there has bound to have been many more banned since. Meanwhile, a report system is still being worked on closely, and is considered one of the top priorities for the team going forward.
Overwatch is now available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
