PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has been a massive success since it released on Early Access, and with that has come a number of server issues that have prevented players from getting online. This is because, according to developer Bluehole Inc, it has become an uphill task to manage the game’s servers during peak times.
During a recent blog post, the developers issued an apology to those suffering from these issues: “We would like to sincerely apologize to everyone for the recent server issues which resulted in long waits and any inconveniences. Our development team has been continuously upgrading the service architecture to address the increasing concurrent player numbers and tackle any emerging issues.”
These unexpected issues during peak times are something that the team are working on tirelessly to fix, especially since the PUBG’s concurrent user predictions were far exceeded from when the lobby was originally designed. Initially, Bluehole expected to have to deal with around 1 million concurrent players, which was subsequently been smashed, surpassing the likes of Dota 2 in setting new records for peak player counts.
To take on these kind of numbers, which has seen over 1.65 million players online at once just the other day, the developers implemented a new server earlier this year, which has also become overwhelmed by the sheer popularity of the battle royale shooting game. PUBG will also be coming to the game preview program on Xbox One, set to launch at some point later this year.
