Microtransactions are arguably one of the biggest causes of controversy in gaming today, and rightly so in many cases. After all, paying full price for a new game to then have to fork over more money is a kick in the teeth for any consumer. Though they may not necessarily need to indulge in such practices in order to proceed with their progress in the game, its very presence is enough to see a game being completely written off by some fans even prior to release. Forza Motorsport 7 has unfortunately been subject to such criticisms, particularly surrounding its VIP membership.
The description for the VIP membership is as follows: “Exclusive cars Mods Driver Gear and more await with Forza Motorsport 7 VIP membership! Forza Motorsport 7 VIP members receive exclusive VIP cars. VIPs will receive additional benefits including 100% CR bonus Mods VIP Driver Gear and more. Get your VIP membership today!”
In previous Forza games, the VIP membership granted a permanent 2x boost to the credits which were earned in each race, which has now changed to limited use consumables that can only be used for 25 races. Which obviously hasn’t sat well with customers, with one quote reading:
Complete bait and switch. Not worth it at all. First and last time I ever buy the ultra/deluxe or whatever they want to call the edition. Making VIP a limited consumable and NOT MAKING IT CLEAR IN THE DESCRIPTION make it obvious how little thought went into customer satisfaction. For a series that I have loved since Forza Motorsport 2, this hurts.
