It’s amazing the statistics we can get from video games nowadays. Before it was only sales and shipping numbers that mattered, but now, we can get much greater stats on what players are doing, the choices the make, the characters they choose, and more. For the recently released Destiny 2, the online element is something that is closely being observed. In fact, Bungie is keeping track so much that they couldn’t help but share when the game made a huge mark on the stat department.
How so? Well, the game has only been out a few days, but according to the Bungie Twitter feed, that’s all it took to get over 1 million players playing the game online…all at the same moment!
Thank you all so much for playing, Guardians! Right now Destiny 2 has over 1.2 Million concurrent players online. We’ll see you in the wild.

This is significant for many reasons, allow us to break them down. First off, Destiny 2 was released for only the Xbox One and PS4, which means that the PC side of things (which will be released in October) isn’t accounted for here. Because that could potentially make the numbers get closer to 2 million. Second, “concurrently” means at the same time, which means over a million players are online, playing the same game in the very same second, that’s mind boggling to think about.
It also shows just how well the Destiny 2 servers are handling things, as they have to actually be online and playing for that number to hold up, if the game couldn’t handle it, the number wouldn’t be as high.
Finally, this is NOT indicative to the sales numbers for the game in the first few days, because you know that not everyone who bought the game is playing it at the same time, it’s just a good majority of them. Still though, that’s pretty outstanding.
