Last year, Middle-earth: Shadow of War producer Michael Forgey sadly passed away following a long battle with cancer. To commemorate the contributions made by Forgey, Monolith Studios decided to immortalize the talented producer by including him as a DLC character known as Forthog Orc-Slayer, an amalgamation of his last name, combined with his band Orc Slayer.
The cost of the DLC will be $4.99, with $3.50 being donated to Forgey’s family. This commendable gesture may have taken a sour turn however, after a report surfaced that revealed some rather troubling information regarding the donations being made. It states that Warner Bros will not be donating all of the revenue generated from the DLC to charity, with 30% of revenue remaining with either WB or the platform holder.
Not only that, but any purchases made outside of the United States will not be counted, nor will donations from six states including Alabama, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi and South Carolina.
This may look rather sinister on the surface, however neither Warner Bros or Monolith Studios has tried to hide the fact that donations will be exempt from anywhere outside of 44 states. Many players will purchase the DLC for the sake of being able to play additional content, which of course is fair. It just seems a shame that many won’t be able to contribute to such a worthy cause. Hopefully this is something Warner Bros can look into to include as many donations as possible.
