So People Hate Ubisoft’s New Free-To-Play Shooter, XDefiant

Fans of Tom Clancy games are utterly disappointed by Ubisoft’s recent announcement of its free-to-play shooter, XDefiant.

XDefiant is a free-to-play 6v6 first-person shooter where you get to tweak your guns, traits, abilities, ultras, and load-outs. But, doesn’t that sound like every generic free-to-play shooter? However, at least it doesn’t have a battle royale mode.

One YouTube comment on the Reveal Trailer sums it up perfectly: “This game was autogenerated by an algorithm” which sounds unnaturally accurate. Tom Clancy’s games aren’t always surefire hits. Yet they always have that gritty and cool, tactical shooter look and feel. This? This is a “fast-paced firefights meets punk-rock moshpits” shooter. What the hell does that even mean?

In other words, this is a “hello fellow kids” meme in the form of a video game. A bunch of oblivious old dudes trying to be cool and hip. Whoever designed this game was in cahoots with the marketing team. I bet everyone thought they’re making a quirky, cool new multiplayer shooter that’s going to change things. LIKE WE DON’T HAVE A TON OF THEM ALREADY. Anyhow, no one in the YouTube comments section has anything nice to say about this game. Above all, I hate they slapped Tom Clancy’s name on this turd. It literally has nothing to do with Tom Clancy’s style.

Generic abilities, plain and boring art style, standard game modes. There’s nothing special or unique about this game. So in conclusion, all the hate XDefiant gets is totally earned as it looks as generic as it can get.
