New World promises it won’t sell pay2win items, but it will sell boosts that help out players who don’t have time to play the game often.
MMOs are a tricky kind of genre. Especially when it comes to MMORPGs. All of them have some sort of in-game shop that offers various things for premium currency/real money. Some only sell cosmetics, others sell items that give you a distinct advantage in-game. After all, MMOs are the most expensive kind of game to make and support.
The upcoming New World closed beta will show the state of the game. Players can check out the storefront introduced in the game way back when the Alpha started. Devs said on Twitter that New World won’t have any pay2win elements. Just cosmetics, that’s all they’re selling.

However, the dev team also wants to test the quality of life items in the near future. Things like fast travel and XP boosts. Only to ensure people that don’t have enough time to play the game reach the exciting end game. But, wouldn’t it make more sense to just make the early game better? So that people wouldn’t even want to skip it? The point of MMOs is the journey from start to finish, as one man perfectly explained in a reply. Why would anyone want to skip immediately to the end?
What do you think gamers, will New World amaze or disappoint? Or will it end up being another forgettable and mediocre MMO? Tell me your thoughts and opinions in the comments section down below!
