Diablo 4 Has The Rogue Class And Open-World PvP
We got tons of information on Diablo 4, like the return of the archer in the form of Rogue as well as open-world PvP zones.
Diablo 4’s Rogue has traces of Assassins and Demon Hunter in its DNA
Those old enough to remember the first Diablo know we had an archer class, the original Rogue. But, the Rogue in Diablo 4 has elements of the Assassin and Demon Hunter there. Bows, crossbows, swords, and daggers, the Rogue can use all of these. As it’s normal these days, our stab happy friend will have lots of movement options. The guys over at PC Gamer talked with Luis Barriga, the game director, about this class. You can check out the sinister trailer for this class down below:
The “Dash” ability lets you blitz around the battlefield. Reposition, enter or exit combat, or retreat. Then you have three distinct specializations:
- Shadow Realm
An ultimate ability where you sneak away from combat and enter the Shadow Realm that gives you stealth. Players can use this ability to cut off a group of enemies from their allies, get a second of invulnerability and deal 50% additional damage.
- Combo Points
Some abilities give you Combo Points. Other abilities improve their effectiveness in combat when used with these points. WoW Rogue players are familiar with this system.
- Exploit Weakness
A spicy one. With Exploit Weakness your enemies have an icon above their heads when right before a launch of certain attacks. Rogues that counter-attack in this time period deal a lot of damage. It’s an intense style of play that rewards quick reflexes.
Rogues can coat their weapons in Poison and Cold elements
That’s not all the tricks this class has in their magic bag. Why just stab your enemies when you can imbue your weapon with Frost or Poison. A standard Rain of Arrows is pretty dangerous. But, add Frost or Acid to that Rain of Arrows and you either get a massive crowd control ability or an intense acidic rain (with some arrows),
I’m pretty sure anyone would love to melt an entire group of demons into goo. All in all, the Rogue class looks fast, sneaky, crafty, and incredibly violent. Everything we love in this class in all other RPGs!
Fields of Hatred
An open-world PvP zone (I hope you didn’t forget that Diablo 4 is a pseudo-MMO) where you can do events, take on bosses and then slaughter other players. The point of the Fields of Hatred is getting Shards of Hatred, a special currency used to buy weapons, mounts, and costumes from a unique vendor. Find out more in another PC Gamer article where they talked with game director Luis Barriga and art director John Muelle about this open-world PvP system.
Crush monsters, complete events, kill players, or open chests. Doing any of these actions gets you Shards of Hatred. Dying means you lose all of these. Those that manage to purify these shards at an alter get to keep them. There’s only one problem — during the purification ritual you get tagged as hostile, so everyone can attack you without earning the hostile tag themselves.
You don’t have to do PvP in this zone. Drop in, do some PvE while avoiding others, and just leave. Those looking for a PvP experience just need to kill a lot of people. There’s the Vessel of Hatred system where the biggest player killer gets the offer to stay in a PvP area that’s highlighted for everyone. Those that kill that player, aka the Vessel of Hatred, get an extra reward.
Diablo 4 is shaping up into an interesting ARPG
Can Diablo 4 ever reach the heights of Diablo 2? Maybe, but the chances are low. We don’t even need that now that we’re getting a Diablo 2 remaster. Still, the devs listen to the players and their feedback. There’s a good chance that Diablo 4 ends up being an excellent ARPG, and a better one than Diablo 3 ever was.
Should you place hope in an Activision-Blizzard game? No, but this ARPG shows a lot of potential. What do you think, will this be a hit or another miss? Share your thoughts and opinions down below!
